Branch Interest GroupsHow can we best serve you?Contact Us. We need your ideas for how our branch can best serve you. Let us (our Membership VP or any member of the board) know if you are interested in any other activities beyond Great Decisions, and our very popular book review groups. Also let us know if you would like to chair or host any new interest group. Active Groups:
Proposed Interest Groups:(Contact Us if you are interested in the following)Let us know if you would like to chair or host any new interest group
Group Details:Great Decisions (Open to the public)This is an eight week program of the Foreign Policy Association, beginning in February, in which participants discuss a U.S. foreign policy issue and submit an opinion ballot for national tabulation. We have offered this program in our community since 1973 and are proud to have the longest running association with this program as an AAUW branch in the United Sates. We have two sessions, morning and evening. The eight sessions begin weekly in February. 2008 sessions will be led by Minta Dietrich and Eileen deHaro. Fall Study Group (Members Only)One book or a small selection of books (all relating to the same topic) is selected for intense study over 6 to 8 weeks. Previously led by member, Janel Barberito Jurczyk, this group has been postponed till an new group leader volunteers. Some past study subjects have been: the Middle East and the Enron scandal. Book Review Groups (Members Only)Our 3 book groups vote on a selection of books to review each year. Each member is urged to suggest books resulting in a very diverse reading program as seen in our book Lists (in pdf format). The Wednesday book group is perfect for those with flexible schedules while the Sunday group better meets the needs of working members. The virtual book group invites all members with Internet and email access especially those finding it difficult to make traditional, scheduled meetings. Entertainment Group (Members Only & Spouse or Guest)Branch members meet at movies, theater, or other entertainment venue and then go to a coffee house for a discussion and plan their next adventures. Plans are only announced via email due to the typically short notice given for movies and other entertainment opportunities. Restaurant Rovers Group (Members Only & Spouse or Guest)Members meet for a Dutch Treat at local restaurants which are selected by a different member each time. Plans are only announced via email and in the newsletter. Spread The Word!If you enjoy our programs, interest groups and adventures, then please tell people about our AAUW branch! If you get any personal press, then please proudly mention that you are a member of the Covington Mandeville branch of AAUW. Or invite your friends and family to our programs especially our annual Salad supper in September for free food and friendship. |
