Younger MembersHow do I apply?Contact our Membership Vice President, for current membership incentives or print a membership Application (in pdf format) and mail it to our MVP with your check. Why are you so important and how can you help?Active younger member participation is essential for the future of AAUW across the nation. The association NEEDS YOUR INPUT to stay current with the needs of women today and to help drive this powerful organization in the future. AAUW is committed to younger members and college students. Visit AAUW's Campus Connections. Also read a list of AAUW Leadership Programs and a list of AAUW fellowships and grants. Help insure that AAUW can address real issues for young women today!
Get involved at the local, state and national level. Join and network via AAUW on Facebook, on AAUW blogs and in SecondLife. Get involved with women's issues at your university or via alumni efforts and join your AAUW - university Facebook group. You can volunteer to work with the Louisiana Student Advisory Council (SAC), or start an AAUW student affiliate at your university. You can add to AAUW's vast knowlege base! This is especially true if you keep up-to-date with all the latest inovations and technical skills. Then perhaps you can help AAUW better use the Internet, virtual environments and suggest the use of new technologies for networking. Who would be interested?
How can we best serve you?Contact Us. We need your ideas for how our branch can best serve you. Let us (our MVP or any member of the board) know if you are interested in any other activities beyond Great Decisions, and our very popular book review groups. Also let us know if you would like to chair or host any new interest group. We need to reach young college graduates and college students to get feedback about their biggest concerns. Suggested Presentations & WorkshopsThe following are suggestions of important and useful information that can be presented to a younger audience:
Do you have any other ideas for meaningful presentations for younger members? Would you like to help provide these programs at your AAUW branch or college? Southeastern AAUW Student Affiliate![]() Since Southeastern is one of the AAUW university partners, Southeastern students may join AAUW as a student affiliate for FREE - a savings of $17 yearly. Louisiana's first AAUW Student Affiliate (SA) group was organized on the campus of Southeastern University in Hammond as a satelite of the Covington-Mandeville Branch. Campus facilitator is Dr. Natasha Whitton. This group's focus is on student empowerment, leadership and encouragement. It strives to maintain Southeastern's status as an AAUW university partner and to send at least one Southeastern student each year to the very pretigious National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in Washington. While stressing that student's studies must come first, this group still manages to participate in philanthropy and regular meetings. Some of the topics discussed during the 2009-10 meeting year were: NCCWSL, Campaign College, The Wage Project, $tart $mart, Legislative Days, a proposed faculty-staff tea, the SGA leadership retreat, visibility, recruitment, ERA and Equal Pay. |
